The best Chrome extension in the world
Elevator music for Google Meet
Live on the Chrome Web Store
Some people say it’s the best Chrome extension they ever used. It does two things in Google Meet that nobody asked for, and does them properly.
What it does
Your background, in the colour of your sweater. The extension finds you in your camera image and replaces everything behind you with one solid colour. Which colour? The one in the bottom middle of the picture, which is usually your shirt. Changed shirts, or moved? One click on Update Color takes a new sample. If the background turns out the colour of your skin, raise your chair a little: it is probably looking at your forehead.
Elevator music for the awkward minutes. The start of a meeting, while everyone waits for everyone else to join. The presenter whose demo just stopped working. Fill that silence with awkward music instead: flip the switch and the music fades into your microphone, at a volume that stays under your voice, so the whole call hears it and so do you.
Features
- Person detection in your browser. The model that tells you apart from your background ships inside the extension and runs on your own computer, on the graphics card where it can.
- Three tracks to choose from: classic elevator music, the Slack hold music and The Girl from Ipanema. Or pick an audio file of your own.
- Gets past studio sound. Google Meet’s noise cancellation filters out everything that isn’t a voice, music included. While the music plays, the extension switches it off through Meet’s own settings, and puts it back afterwards. If your organisation has locked that setting, the popup tells you.
- Off by default. The music starts switched off in every meeting, so nobody gets a surprise concert. The background setting is remembered.
- Only on Google Meet. It runs on meet.google.com and nowhere else.
Free on the Chrome Web Store. No account, no subscription and, most of all, no point. Have fun.
Privacy
The extension collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere. Your camera image and sound are processed in your browser and only go where Meet sends them anyway: to the people in your call. Your settings, and your own audio file if you pick one, stay in Chrome’s storage on your computer. No accounts, no ads, no analytics. The details are in the privacy policy.
