Rilo Terms of Use
Last updated: 20 October 2026
These terms apply to Rilo, made by Small Victories BV. By setting up or using Rilo you agree to them. How Rilo handles personal data is in the privacy policy.
Who Rilo is for
- Rilo is for children of about 4 to 10, and for the parents and other grown-ups they call.
- Accounts for grown-ups are for adults only. Rilo checks this with an email address when you sign up.
- A child’s account is always set up and managed by a parent or guardian. You decide who your child can reach: every contact has to be approved by you or another grown-up you added for your child, and any of you can remove anyone at any time.
Using Rilo
- Rilo is for calls and typed messages between people who know each other. Use it only to talk with children and adults you actually know.
- Don’t use Rilo to harass, threaten or harm anyone, to contact a child you don’t know, or to break the law. If you see something worrying, use Report in the app, or see child safety for the other ways to report it.
- Calls and messages are end-to-end encrypted, so I can’t listen to or read them. That also means you are responsible for what you say.
- Don’t try to get around the parental controls, the encryption or the app’s limits, or to access other people’s accounts.
What we tell children
In the app, before a child starts, Rilo shows them these rules in plain words:
You can call the people on your phone, and write to them.
Only people you have met. A grown-up says yes to every one of them.
No photos and no films here. Just words and foxes.
Your grown-up can stop anybody from reaching you. You can ask them to, whenever you want.
Subscription
- Rilo is free to install, and free for every grown-up your child calls. Setting up a child is the one thing that needs a subscription. A new family first gets a free period; the app shows until when.
- A grown-up buys the subscription in the app, through the App Store or Google Play. The plans and prices are shown in the app before you buy. If the subscription ends, your child’s Rilo stops connecting until it is renewed.
- The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it. You cancel, change and get refunds through the store you bought it from, under its rules: on the App Store, Apple’s standard licence terms apply; on Google Play, the Google Play terms.
- Subscriptions can only be bought from a grown-up’s account, never from a child’s. On iPhone and iPad, Rilo also asks a parental-gate question before every purchase.
Ending your account
You can stop using Rilo at any time and delete your account. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel a store subscription; cancel that in the store. I may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, especially where a child’s safety is at stake.
Our responsibility
I build Rilo with care and keep it running as well as I can, but I can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. Rilo is not a phone service: don’t rely on it for emergency calls. As far as the law allows, Small Victories BV is not liable for indirect damage arising from using Rilo. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under Belgian or EU law.
Law and disputes
Belgian law applies to these terms, and disputes go to the courts of Ghent. If you are a consumer, this doesn’t take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, I’ll say so in the app or on rilotalk.com before the change applies.
